At this time of year, it always helps to get small business tips on staving off the winter blues. Now that the holiday season is over, the lull of winter is finally setting in. In entrepreneur speak, that means it’s time for hibernation.
Cue the eye roll.
At this time of year, it seems like the only booming businesses are snow removal companies. Some people begin to lose steam at work… maybe it’s because they had too much egg nog this season, or maybe they are just downright tired of leaving work at 5 p.m. and realizing the sun has already set.
Whatever the case, the beginning of the year is NOT the time to lose steam. If anything, it is a great time to turn over a new leaf… even though leaves can be a little big hard to come by right now. We started a list of small business tips and ideas that might help you get started, but it takes more than just ideas to gain acceleration in a productive direction.
In order to keep up your energy at work, try making a few small lifestyle changes. While big changes like daily workouts and improved diet can do wonders for morale, it can also be difficult to implement. Here are some small changes you can make that can amp up your productivity…
Spread some post-holiday cheer.
Get the year started on the right foot by doing something nice for someone else. Give a few bucks to your favorite charity or take someone you care about out for lunch. It just takes a few minutes, but it can boost your mood… and a happy worker is a productive worker, right?
Shake up the routine.
Sometimes in the wintertime, it begins to feel like your either stuck inside at the office or stuck inside at home. Cabin fever begins to set in. When you aren’t in the office, take some time to get out and about. Take the family ice skating or go out to a new restaurant. In a season where routine can reign, shake it up to keep from feeling stir-crazy.
Heck, we aren’t health experts, but we know that in order to do your job well, you need all the energy you can get. Make an appointment with your physician and ask him how you can give your body the tools it needs to stay energized this winter. Maybe ask your doctor if there are any vitamins or supplements you can take to strengthen your immune system. Get plenty of sleep. The bottom line is that if you aren’t giving your body the tools it needs to have good energy, your productivity is going to drop.
Reevaluate and get new small business tips.
While everyone else is in hibernation mode, you can get busy. Reevaluate your current business plan. What is working? What isn’t? What needs to change? Sometimes by stepping back from the hum-drum of day-to-day life at the office, you can gain some insights that will give you energy to keep things moving forward.
