Creativity is a fickle thing. One minute you’re hit a genius spark and just like that it’s gone. If you could catch it, bottle it up, and Get the creativity flowing with these great prompts.keep it on the shelf, you’d be a very rich person. But, creativity doesn’t work that way. You have to use it when it strikes and look for it when it’s gone. To help, here are a few prompts that are known to get creativity flowing:

1. Use an inspiration file to keep you motivated.

Inspirational files can be physical folders you keep at your desk or they may just be a bookmark folder on your browser. Either way, this is the place where you keep articles, images, and words that you make some sort of connection with. The inspiration files are great to pull out when you just aren’t feeling it and need an extra shot of motivation.

2. Set a timer for 5 minutes and write.

Stream of conscious writing is a fantastic way to get out the distractions in your head and find your unique perspective. Whether you’re having trouble concentrating or you just don’t feel creative, take 5 minutes and write. Don’t let anything distract you and don’t let your pen leave the paper. At the end of 5 minutes, you’ll be surprised by how much you wrote and what you wrote.

3. Stop what you’re doing and take a break outside.

When you start feeling the walls getting closer or the air getting stuffy, you know it’s time to take a break and head outside. Take a walk. Go for a jog. Sit on a porch. Take a deep breath and relax. If only for a few minutes, getting outside will help you clear your head and feel refreshed. When you head back in, you’ll feel the creativity start flowing.

4. Change up your routine slightly to keep things fresh.

One of the biggest challenges creative types face is routine. When you feel stuck in a routine, you’ll also feel stuck in the way you’re thinking, which means no creativity. Instead, of continuing this way, change up something small about that routine. Take a different route to work. Get up 20 minutes earlier. Try a different coffee shop. Changing things just slightly won’t alter your entire day, but it could give you the new perspective you need to tackle a creative challenge.

5. Turn off the Internet so you aren’t distracted.

If your creative work is done on a computer, there are a million different distractions at your fingertips. While those distractions have the potential to keep your creativity going, they also have the potential to completely kill your creativity. To avoid that, turn the Internet off. There are great apps and plugins you can install to kill the Internet and the many distractions it offers. Doing this will help you stay focused on your work.
