Having a ridiculous amount of web traffic won’t do you any good if it isn’t the right web traffic. Internet marketing isn’t about reaching everyone, it’s about reaching the right person.
Just because you spent time building and designing a beautiful website doesn’t mean you’re going to get the traffic that you want and need. Internet marketing is about picking through the haystack to find the needles that matter.
In order to really make your website work for you and drive the right traffic, you need to be doing the following:
Segmenting Your Audience
If your product or service is for multiple audiences, then you need to be segmenting them out.
There’s no way you can create a page on your site that talks to all of your segments and achieves the conversion rate you need. Instead, segment your web traffic as soon as possible so you can convert web traffic into leads.
For some, this means segmenting traffic on the homepage, but you can also segment before traffic ever makes it to your site. Doing this will help you get the right traffic right away.
If you’re using ads on Facebook or Google, then make sure they are targeted to the right people. Hone in on your demographics and use keywords you know will get the right attention.
Also, things like keywords and meta descriptions will help you segment your audience and attract the right traffic through search engines. With meta descriptions, be as specific as possible so that your audience knows what you’re offering and the people you aren’t targeting know that your site isn’t really for them.
The key to Internet marketing is to be consistent. That means you need to be consistently specific. It isn’t enough to just use the same logo and message on everything. You need to be specific about your offering, your value proposition, and your audience.
People need to know what you are talking about and who you are talking about, otherwise, you’ll get lost in all of the noise online.
When you post on social media, be specific about what you’re offering. When you set up a pay-per-click campaign, make sure the copy identifies who you are talking to. When you send out an email, know who you are talking to.
Being ultra specific will help you focus in on your target market and drive the right traffic to your site.
Knowing the Right Channels
Aside from stretching yourself thin, when you try to be everywhere at once, you’ll end up diluting your message and missing your purpose.
Your business may not need to be on Twitter. Running Google adwords may not be right for you. Having a Pinterest account may not drive any traffic for you.
Instead of being everywhere, you need to be where your audience is. You need to build buyer personas and target your consumers to drive the right web traffic to your site.
Using Lead Magnets
If you’re having trouble driving the right traffic to your site, it could be because the right people don’t know what you’re offering.
Typically speaking, general web traffic won’t be interested in the lead magnets you are offering. By creating and using lead magnets, you can help your target audience identify and find you online.
Lead magnets will not only drive the right traffic to your site, but they will also help you generate leads from that traffic.
Internet marketing is all about the right traffic.
You want to attract the right traffic so you can move visitors through your online sales funnel. General visitors may not actually be interested in your offerings.
It can be hard to break through the noise online, but when you have a strategic Internet marketing partner, you can break through and attract the right traffic-driving leads and increasing sales.
